Pictures Gallery For Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

Overall Score: 7 out of 10

The rules are set. The game is on.

Starring: Jim Carrey, Meryl Streep, Jude Law, Emily Browning, Liam Aiken, Kara Hoffman, Shelby Hoffman, Timothy Spall, Billy Connolly, Luis Guzmán, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Adams, Craig Ferguson, Jamie Harris

Director: Brad Silberling

Running Time: 98 minutes

US MPAA rating: PG
UK BBFC rating: PG
Adventure, Comedy, Family, Fantasy

There tend to be two types of people in this world: those who don't like Jim Carrey, and Jim Carrey. Sure, the guy's proven himself to be a good, solid actor in films like

It's Got: A cast so teeming with modern-day Hollywood talent that the likes of Jennifer Coolidge, Luis Guzman, Catherine O'Hara, Cedric the Entertainer and even Dustin Hoffman are barely more than extras.

It Needs: To have made Baby Sunny's lines funnier. Having her pre-speech grunts translated as subtitles on the bottom of the screen is a nice idea, but I couldn't help but feel that the so-so jokes used turned it into a bit of a missed opportunity.

Alternatives: Holes, Spirited Away, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Summary: You'll find nothing unfortunate about going to see this dark, fun, horror-for-kiddies. Overall Score: 7 out of 10

I thought that this film was brilliant, Jim carrey was hilarious and the three Baudeliares were awesome. It was an excellant adaption of the book to screen and I hope there will be more to come!

As a movie, it's absolutely superb; however, it is not made for young children. My 5-years old daughter did sit through it, but she calls it 'evil' afterwards.

The movie was great! I saw it 2 times with my friends. Jim Carrey is awesome!

I LOVE IT, but its not a good movie for adults either, my mother seems to think it evil and boring without no praticular story plot.

I have a question for this game. I have it on PC. When you are in Justice Strauss house, after you use the handle puller thing, you get to the librayr, go through some more and you get to a lift, you go up and eventually you get to a room with a painting. you pull the leaver behind the painting and the trapdoor opens above-but there is no ladder. You climb an invisible ladder and then there is a ladder above it. you cant go anywhere. you're jammed. What do I do?

if you are anywhere near smart, you would realise this movie was totally boring. not a great film at all. there was nothing right with this utterly shameful adaptation of the great books. what a load of rubbish. score -10/10

This movie, was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was absolutly wonderful. The actors were great, and so was the storyline. The books are also wonderful. I hope to see more Lemony Snicket films in the future.

I have not yet seen the movie but by the ratings it is getting I say some of you people are downright crazy! The books were even better than Harry Potter!I lent them to my friends right away. They both say that it is a very good book and I am full heartedly going to see the movie! You should see it to!I would deffinetly see it and it would be worth my money!

It was great! My father, who usually doesn't go for kid movies, truly enjoyed it. My only regret is that the movie wanders from the books a lot. The books are much better, but then again, books are always better than the movie that is made off of them- we saw this with the Harry Potter series. This movie, however, covers the span of three of the books in the Series of Unfortunate Events. The move cuts out an unbelievable amount of material (at least from what I remember) and it only covers the main points of the second and third books. The most amazing thing I noticed was the order of the movie's plot. Instead of having the movie follow the books in sequential order, the movie starts with half of book 1, then covers the main points of books 2 and 3, and then finishes with the second half of book 1. I think this is a major flaw, but it is only noticeable to those who have read the books. Once again, I recommend that anyone wishing to see the movie read the books first, so you don't miss out on anything real great, and so you are not mislead in any way. I don't mean that the movie CAN'T be followed without reading the books first; it only seems that it would be in the audience's best interest to do so. Anyway, I hope that a second movie comes out to continue the series! I would hate for it to end here! (If this is too long, you have my apologies.)

Hey i LOVED the movie. It wasn't ment to be a little childrens movie, it was ment to be a maybe 8-whatever aged movie. the movie did skip around but it was REALLY REALLY good. Emily Browning (Violet), Liam Aiken (Klaus) and Kate (i think) and Shelby Hoffman (Sunny) did a wonderful job. Also Jim Carry (Count Olaf), and Jude Law (Lemony Snicket) The books were very very good. i am 12 and my mom (29) loved the books. we cannot wait till the 12th and cannot wait 'till the next movie!

i have a question about the game, when you go to get the inky newt and you are in the room with the lizards and snake. Klaus says he could probably feed the snake. how do you feed the snake and what do you feed it?(this is for GBA)

really wonderful movie great job picking the actors.i learned that Emily Browning (Violet) has an Australian accent but i never noticed it during the movie.well done!Liam Aikem (Klaus)was really great. i`d have to say my favorite actor was Sunny.very funny choice of lines.i think Jim Carrey was a great choice for Count Olaf cause that way you don`t have to end up hateing him.i`m really hoping they produce a sequel.

I thought it was totally awesome! I've seen the movies three times already *just this week!* The acting was amazing- perfectly cast, and I really hope there will be a sequel or two. Although, it was incredibly disturbing when the Count Olaf guy smacked Klaus. It was SO bad I had to stand up and scream at him- and I'm a pretty reserved person! Liam Aiken is HOT! And such a good actor! And Emily rocks too.
Comment by:- Misty Lynn | | 31 December 2004 | ip: logged

Jim Carrery did so well as acting as count olaf. Heck he did not act as him HE WAS COUNT OLAF!!! I have read all the books and i was worried that they werent going to do a good job. I remeber in the book when he slaped him. i knew that was going to be in the movie, but i felt that they would make it seem fake! i do not aprove of Klaus getting slapped but they made it seem so realy i wanted to scream. And when a acter can make you do that they had done they job well.

The kids acters were great too! i bet we all fell in love with sunny. in Harry potter you can see them become greater acters as you watchs all three moives. But from the start in this every moive they were great!! I never been on a moive set before. but i keep asking myself how on earth did they get sunny to do that!! She was so cute!!

Liam was bloody sexy! I pictured him more book wormy looking arfter the books. but they caputed that with out them need for the big round glasses.

Voilet!!! OMG she is like my women poweer girl! she is the girl i wish i could be some day. but i can never think like her. She is smart for her age!!

mmm ok, I'm 16 so you all know where I'm coming from basically... they cut out a lot of the stuff in the books but it wasn't so bad... I think they butchered 'Lord of the Rings' WAY worse... don't even get me started on 'The Black Cauldron' although that movie adaptation of 'Queen of the Damned' kinda sucked too but I liked how Lestat looked *rambles on* *2 hours later* well anyways, I thought this movie was excellant but I'm pretty sure this is all a matter of opinion. This movie is all dark and gothic-like (as the title would probably suggest) and everyone is always so serious so I'd pretty much suggest this children 8+ because then they already know the world isn't always a happy place. one more note... I think most people agree with me one this one, Klaus is supposed to be a fat with glasses but we like him better in the movie right? cuz he's hot? lol! and he DID wear glasses while he was reading

I love the books...read them all....but the movie was awful. It was not in order, left out a HUGE amount of details...and even though Jim Carrey is a hilarious actor, this role did not suit him. I found him annoying, and the actors were fine...but there were some drags. These books just weren't made to be movies. There is no way than can complete the whole saga with the same actors, they will grow too fast, and maybe even be replaced. The setting was no good, and the mood portrayed in the books was not at all reflected in the movie.I AM a fan, and I'm saying...it was just no good.

the movie was sooooooo cool but i liked the books more. also i want all u guys to know that i read all the books in a day each execpt the 4th which i read in 4 hours the 7th in 3 hours the 9th(the best)in 2 hours and a half and the 10th...well... i was at vegas and i read 30 min a day for three days and finished on the 3rd in the morning so... an hour and a half it took me to finish the tenth. also, i want u all to know that i saw the world priemere(the first) with my best friend and got jim carreys signature and talked to him a bit. i was going to get liem alkien's signature(my friends aunt kinda knows him) but he had to go "take pictures" but i dont blame him. he was busy.
