Comedy

You may or may not have noticed it, but good quality comedy sequels don't exactly grow on trees. All too often, they fall into the trap of relying too heavily on recycled gags, trying too hard to recreate old scenarios, or failing to add strong enough new characters. The great thing about 'Meet the Fockers' - the follow-up to 2000's

It's Got: An ingenious - if slightly creepy - invention to enable blokes to breast feed.

It Needs: To have been a bit more ruthless in the editing department and lopped off around 20 minutes.

Alternatives: Meet the Parents, Our House, Along Came Polly, There's Something About Mary

Summary: A return visit well worth making. In adding some new names, a new scenario, and plenty of new laughs, the bods behind 'Meet the Fockers' have come up with a winner. Overall Score: 7 out of 10

I hope I am not alone. I watch this film with my wife. She was mildly amused, I was bored out of my mind. I really enjoy comedy, but found this unoriginal and extremely dull. I appreciate the great actting of hoffman, but found the character annoying. Babs was great in the role, but the role was not great.

I can not fault the acting. I believe the script to be solely at fault as the jokes were old and done so much better before. The main joke being the family name of Focker, which was mildly amusing on first hearing. the script and direction would have had more weight if greg Focker's parents gave some pretence of being a Doctor and employed Solicitor.

At the end of the film my wife ask if I enjoyed it. As I am on a diet I found the comedy, like the pop corn, beyong my grasp.

One of the best comedy films of 2004, Meet The Fockers will force you burst out in tears laughing. One of the few follow-up sequels that holds a candle to the original, you won't want to miss it...
