Why do so many trailers seem so much better than the actual movie? It seems that all the good bits of this film were compressed into the 2 minute trailer. That's not to say it's a poor film - it's just another homogenous horror flick that ambles along quite nicely until it reaches its rather predictable destination.
What, that's not enough for you?
At the end of their six month operation, a close knit salvage team discover the Antonio Graza, a derelict ocean liner adrift after its mysterious disappearance in 1962. Normally you'd think this was enough to send them running back to shore in blind panic, as the creepy liner looks every bit the part of the film's title.
As the crew board the liner intent on making themselves rich - mysterious things start happening; the only female crew member sees a ghostly child wandering the decks, while the others are equally plagued by unexplained visions.
When they finally find the ship's secret, they also discover that someone doesn't want them to leave...
Ghost Ship is an adequate horror flick. Nothing new or original here, in fact you've probably seen it all before if you've seen 13 Ghosts. Only the location has changed. There is an excellent opening scene that lulls you into a false sense that the film is actually going to be some good, but it barely manages to keep any suspense for its 91 minutes. Yes it's mildly scary - but it could have been so much more.
The ending sadly is predictable beyond belief, I was waiting for the final twist and wholly unsurprised by the oh so Hammer Horror ending.
If you like isolation, wandering long dark corridors and a good ghost story, rent 13 Ghosts. If you're a salty sea dog with a penchant for hauntings, this is the film for you.
It's Got: A nice build up of tension in some places. Some very gory effects
It Needs: A director that's not afraid to take risks. A desperate injection of originality.

Summary: Unimpressed. Nothing you haven't seen before. Hollywood please take note - we expect much better than this.
