Landon Carter (Shane West) is a big name in the school in-crowd - an aimless, moody, troublemaker who breezes through school making the most of his popularity. One night, he dares a boy to jump into a reservoir in order to join his gang. When the prank goes wrong with the boy ending up in hospital, Landon is given community service to do - he is assigned to tutor disadvantaged students on the weekends and to participate in the Drama Club's spring play. This throws him together with Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore), a girl who he has known all his life but ignored.
Serious, conservative, and daughter of the town's church minister, Jamie (Moore) is as far from cool as she can possibly be, and doesn't care - she knows where she is going and what she wants to do with her life. Struggling with the lines of the school play, Landon is forced to ask Jamie for help. In spending time together, Landon learns to worry less about what others think of him and more about doing what he feels is right. The two become friends and a relationship develops. However, Jamie has a very big secret she must keep from Landon - one that will get in the way of their romance and destroy their future together.
The "cool kid meets misfit and falls in love" story has been done many times, but this is a fine example of the genre. Both West and Moore produce likeable characters with depth. They also make the most of the script, which has a twist or two which makes it stand out from the crowd. Starting out as a lightweight teen movie, it develops into a fine right-of-passage fable which is surprisingly worthwhile.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks.
DVD Extras: Could use a director's commentary.
Extras: Cast and crew interviews, A day on the set of A Walk to Remember, Trailer, TV spots.

It's Got: Strong performances from West and Moore.
It Needs: A bit more on Landon's background with his father.
Alternatives: She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You.
Summary: It's been done before, of course, but this movie does it much better than most. Those who love teen romances will enjoy this film, but don't overlook it if the genre doesn't usually appeal. This film will please a much wider audience than one might expect - including adults - and even the men may need a tissue for the ending.

in the philippines, a walk to remember became such a big hit that most filipinos finally got to be introduced to mandy moore. i didn't specifically ride with the tide when all of the hopeless romantics would fill up the moviehouses when it was shown here but i guess now i regret not having been able to support it then. it required me to see it (on video) a few times to be able to appreciate it. i cried a river of tears after i have seen it. the love seemed too good to be true. this film is the most romantic film i have seen to date!

This film makes a Christian statement without Bible beating it between your eyes. The characters are so well acted that you empathize with them through every moment of the film. The scenes speak truth, teen maturity, forgiveness, principles, and unconditional love, but no where is it "preachy" or contrived. I don't know where Shane West came from, but he is amazing in the role as Landon and is Oscar worthy. Just watching his facial expressions and dialogue delivery was awesome. Mandy Moore was at her best in this (she is not as good in How to Deal or Chasing Liberty), but then those movies didn't have SHANE WEST to guide her through. This is one DVD that I wished I HADN'T listened to the "special feature dialogue" after seeing the film. Listening to the drivel and fill-in commentaries took me from a feeling of an inspired high to a "wish I hadn't known that" low. Watch it without the extras!!!! The impression that you are left with is much stronger and more lasting without the mindless ad-libbing.

I thought this film was so amazing and beatiful i mean the storyline was great and how the story goes.. I thought this film set out a good message to all teens and we should learn and take consideration of what life is and that we shouldn't be wasiting our lives but use it for a good course and maybe somewhere on the line you will meet someone like Jame of Landon because i think these two characters set a good example of what we should become and also learn from.. But overall i thought this film was just the greatest film i've ever seen in my life...

I'm from Brazil and I have to say that this is the kind of movie that all lovers in the whole should watch!! I've seen it more than 8 times.. and its obviously that I will watch it many other times during my life. I'm only 15, but I learned a lot with this fantastic and touching movie. Ow, I had already remembered something taht thing you're gonna like. Here, in Brazil, there's a teenager soap opera (novela, in portuguese) in which the main plot is almost "A Walk to Remember" one. It's really beautiful, but I steal prefer the movie story. Kisses and hugs, from your's brazilians readers, Tatty Leao.

This was an excellent and well-developed movie. I really enjoyed watching it. Mandy Moore did an awesome job along with Shane West all throughout the movie. I rent it all the time and still, to this day, enjoy it very much!

One of the things that attracted me about this movie is, how peer preasure comes alive on the screen and how a humble town girl is not impressed with what goes around her.The best thing is that she helps a life to change for the best. He faith is never touched.

I love this movie, still, I'm like absessed with it. Mandy moore is great, don't forget Shane West. I still kinda watch it like at least once a week, I remember when it first came out on DVD, I watched it like 4 times that day...I'm crazy, but it's good and sad. The story is very touching, and it teaches about love, faith, friendship and lessons to be learned. I personally love chick flick but this is more that a chick flick. I would really recomend it to people.
