From 'Cinderella' to 'Sleeping Beauty', fairytales have always been full of pretty young women elevated to a life of luxurious royalty when they meet a Prince Charming - and despite the cautionary real-life story of Charles and Diana, little girls still dream of being swept off their feet and out of their ordinary lives by a prince who recognises the true princess in them. This oldworld fantasy has been fed by recent films like 'The Princess Diaries' and
It's Got: A bartender who, on hearing that Eddie can speak Flemish, wonders if there is a country called 'Flem'; a race on modified lawnmowers; a farmboy who reckons, when he hears that Helena Christensen and a member of Metallica are from Denmark, that "that's gotta be the coolest country in the world"; Ben Miller as a valet who discovers himself via an XBox; and the ever excellent Julia Styles, making the whole thing seem worthwhile.
It Needs: To be shorter, and to have less of a mixed message.
Alternatives: 'The Princess Diaries', What a Girl Wants
Summary: Just your average farmgirl-to-princess fairytale, with a would-be feminist twist, and a performance from Julia Styles for which she deserves to be crowned.

Hello my name is Anders Olsen and im from Denmark. I Write because I need to make some thing clear. The picture this "popcorn Movie" wants to make about Denmark, is very wrong. It seems to me that the Americans do not know anything about what is going on in the rest af the world. Our Royal Family is not that oldfasion. and now you're making a film about Denmark, Please make some reseach before starting. And finaly I want to make clar that the Royal family do not have anything to say. We have a Prime Minister (Anders Fogh) and secendly a lot of our deals with other Contries goes thrugh the European Union. end of story bye bye.

I am Danish, and I watched this film mainly for a good laugh - ie of the mistakes I was sure they would make when portraying Denmark. I was not disappointed. Seriously a little research goes a long way!!! I mean couldn't they have gone to the trouble of using Danish license plates, of knowing that the monarch has no say in running the government, and that we don't crown the monarch just to name a few. So this prince was more likely to have been from Fantasia than Denmark. Oh, and what was the deal with those accents?

Gotta agree with my fellow Danes. It was a great movie but the research done on Denmark was terrible. The thing I just don't understand is why everything that was written, like the papers in cabinet, (which by the way in reality dosen't have anything to do with the Royal family, since they aren't allowed to have a public opinion about anything), the sign e.g. Pediatric Hospital was written in Danish. Why would someone go through so much trouble, when Danish only is being spoken by some people of the crowd, a cab driver and an arc bishop through out the movie. Poor job! But besides from that and all of the other mistakes, it was all in all a great film!

i think the movie was great!! though the story was quite cheesy, the simplicity of the plot and the way the roles were portrayed made the film really good and inspiring. i like it!

Hi, I think that the movie was excellent. I liked that the fairy tale way the movie was made. But as for everyone's comments on doing research. NEWSFLASH!!!! This is not the first movie ever made that had a few foepa's in it. Stop being so critical. They, meaning Julia, Luke and the rest of the cast work very hard to entertain us. SO PLEASE GIVE THEM SOME CREDIT FOR THAT. By the way, Luke Malby, you are very gorgeous from what I have seen. Good luck with the rest of your carrer. And as always, Julia Stiles, you are abosolutely wonderful in this movie. And very beautiful woman. BEST MOVIE THIS YEAR!!!!!

Do some ****ing research, Mr. Bitel! Hans Christian Andersen was NEVER born in Copenhagen, he was born in Odense. In fact, Odense is famous throughout scandinavia, BECAUSE Hans Christian Andersen was born there! and by the way: Stop thinking about Denmark as a fairytale-country! We have to few prisons, so the crime is getting more uncontroled every year, we have a lot of organised crime, we don't have mountains (as portrayed in the movie!!), and yes, we ARE infact A COUNTRY! We've got the oldest flagg in the world, and we once kicked England's ass! We're pretty much like any other western country. Denmark is not so ****ing beautiful and peaceful as everyone thinks, I would actually say that my country has gone from good to really bad in the last 50 years. I love my country, but I hate when foreigners portray Denmark as being one of the most loveable places in the goddam world! Maybe the truth might get someone ****ed, and I'm sorry about that, but that's the way it is.

I liked the movie. i'm not from denmark, so i wouldn't know all the "mistakes" people say & all that other crap. Luke Malby is hot! haha, but that's not the reason I liked it. the story was good whether or not "the writers didn't do enough research." calm down, people!

I thought the movie was awesome. After watching it this movie, I am hoping that my fairy tale will come true. I would like to meet my shining prince (maybe not a real one) and fall deeply in love with him just like Paige and Eddie. They were so lucky to find each other that I think any woman who has ever watched this movie is hoping that the same fate will happen to them as it did for Paige.

I thought the movie was awesome. Luke Is so hot. What people need to realize is this is a movie. It isn't real life. Audiences like fairy tale stories that end happily ever after. So what if it wasn't portrayed exactly how Denmark really is. The movie is for entertainment and it doesn't really matter. The comments some of you people are saying are hilarious to me because you obviously take things way too personal about your country. The fact is the movie was a great story even if it wasn't true. It isn't meant to be.

My favorite movies are good romance comedies, and this is exactly what the movie is...a fantasy I loved it because sometimes I like to fantasize. It's a movie, not real...so don't get bent out of shape because they didn't "research" Denmark. I'm sure there are people in Wisconsin who can nitpick about it too. Who cares -- it's make believe! Enjoy the relationship because that's what its about.

i never thought that i would fall for a movie with a script as obvious as the prince and me, but as some other people have said, the way the characters were portayed made the film more refreshing and very enjoyable to watch

Just came to read some revuews of this movie before buying it. Cant believe people get so upset about movies. Movies are for entertainment value.. dont take them so seriously :S. anyway, Julia Stiles is my favourite actress and im sure i wont be dissapointed in this. 10 Things i Hate About You is my favourite movie of hers as of yet, with Save The Last Dance second. In The Bourne Supremecy, does she play a lead character or is it just pretty much Matt Damon? Thanks :)

I just came to read the comments on this movie as well. Would you people stop being so critical. I would like to see you all get up there and try to do a better job.And i think that people can cut out the swearing. This movie was excellent and i think that the actors and actresses did a wonderful job on Portraying the characters . That point was exactly right. Its a movie and noit all things in movies are real so grow up. If you arent going to say anything nice well dont say anything at all right. Luke Mably and Julia stiles are talented people and i think they deserve some recognition for there work.

All of you Danes are insane because their is nothing wrong with the movie because it doesn't matter how they portrayed your country. And for your information Anders Olsen WE AMERICANS have perfect knowledge of what is going on in the rest of the world. We also have perfect comprehension! I personally loved the movie and thought Luke Malby was really really hot! I also think Julia Stiles played her part really well.

I loved the movie! It was for entertainment purposes, not a World History lesson. People need to chill out. They also need to proof read their comments. All the cussing and the major spelling errors just shows how ignorant they are, not the movie industry. I've been to Copenhagen, Denmark and was totally discussed with it. It's a filthy place, that degrades the beauty of sex. I'm sure there are some beautiful places there, but I didn't see any while visiting. Not worth going back either. Knowing alittle about Denmark didn't effect my reviews of the movie. I think it was nicely portrayed and the acting was great. I can't wait for a #2!

Hmmm... I happen to like this movie... So what about the details? It is a STORY. Hello people!!! Didn't your parents tell you that movies where make beleave? MEANING THEY ARE NOT REAL!!! So whats the big deal. ITs not like it really matters. Apparently us Americans know better. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF ALL THE PEOPLE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES HATING AND DEPLICTING AMERICANS!!! What the hey, HELLO we don't redicule you. I have heard people say that Americans are stupid and ignorant and selfish. Well what can I say? That would be the Americans. By the way we are not selfish... We are INDEPENDANT on our selves... Look at it this way... We don't have royalty, we have very, very powerful, rich people running our government... I mean come on its a movie, ever watch a Disney movie? Its all about happly ever after... Little girls dream of finding there prince charming. I did when I was little but my prince died... so why be mad for just a story? Let people beleave in a happly ever after....
