Call it babyboom nostalgia, call it a creativity deficit, or call it a postmodern reflex, but in the last ten years Hollywood has been turning back to old TV shows for its inspiration. There have been cinematic reimaginings of crime shows (
It's Got: A fabulous animated pop-art opening sequence; Lady Penelope saying "I am an undercover agent, so please try to be discreet", before stepping up to her giant pink 6-wheeled car; the Hood using mind control to manipulate Brains "like a puppet on a string"; a hilarious joke involving the wire in Penelope's underbra; the spectacle of Thunderbird 2 landing at the London Eye; funky design standards; and some truly shameless promotion for a certain car manufacturer.
It Needs: To decide whether its characters are puppets or real human beings - and for its action to be more thrilling.
Alternatives: 'Spy Kids'
Summary: The strings have gone, but so has much of the charm, in this fab-looking blandfest.

Frakes what have you done? A typical hollywood crock, where rather than make new original movies, they try to get a few more dollars by 'cheesing up' (and ruining) old classics (e.g.: Get Carter, The Italian Job, The Ladykillers, The Saint.....). The puppets acted in a less wooden fasion. Nice special effects though.

I've heard from other people that Alan Tracy is twelve, but he looks too old, he looks between 17-19, Brady Corbet who plays Alan is 15 or 16 and he looked older in the movie.

Alan cannot be 12 years old, he's way too old, about 17 or 18. I know Brady is fifteen or sixteen, but in the movie he looks a little older.

This is a great movie! A lot of folk are trashing it, but they are dead wrong! I am 50 and fan of the original TV show. The movie is squarely aimed at kids (well, Duh!) but I enjoyed it immensely. Don't believe the nay-sayers! Great attention to detail, and the CGI gets you up-close-and-personal with the craft. A blast!

I saw the movie too and although i wasn't what i expected definately caught my atention, thunderbirds were meant for kids, they aimed to it. awsome special effects and nothing nasty as some proclaim.

This was a great popcorn movie - perfect for s summer matinee (we saw it rather than work in the yard in 95 degree weather) If you're looking for the original Thunderbirds, this ain't it, but the movie had all the right things for a summer matinee: the bad guys were truly bad, the good guys were good, and you knew how it was going to end five minutes into it. But what fun! And speaking of product placement, did anybody (other than my six year old) notice the ice cream when they were in the freezer?

Isaw the film and was impressed. I went in with expectation of something extremely similar to the tv series, but what i got was way better. Awesome special effects, the Tracy's off strings and seeing the Thunderbirds come to life and seem real. I am a huge fan of the show along with others and I aggree with Ben that it is an awesome summer matinee. This film blew my expectations right out of the water and into orbit with Thunderbird 5. 10 out of 10 stars. Wicked!!!

Apart from the Ben & Jerry's ice cream, the only other product placement I spotted was that everything with wheels had a Ford badge. Except FAB 1 of course - but that looked suspiciously like a Bentley rather than the Rolls Royce in the original.

Haven't seen it - planning to - just posting because I am praying, praying, PRAYING that Anonymous "omg i luve thunderbirds it was lik the worlds best movie" is not a real person, just someone who is pretending to be braindead. Please tell me that this is true, otherwise I lose my faith in humanity.

My ten year old son had a wonderful time enjoying this movie. While I thought the script was a bit bland, the characters shallow, and the plot details barely plausable, the film was not aimed at me, but at children my son's age. I enjoyed the movie simply because he enjoyed it.

The comment about the Lady P's Car. If you noticed it had a "FORD" badge on the back! Call me a purist but Lady P would have nothing but a Rolls Royce, British to the core !!!!!! To top it all whoever designed the bloody thing should be shot (probably a "FORD" guy). Although it was a good kids movie to watch, this movie had the potential to be so much more, unfortuneately the oppertunity was missed in a very big way.

I too took my kids to see this movie. For them it was great. For me it was a run down memory lane. I had hoped however since this movie was based on the old 60's show that the baby boomers would be the target audience and not their children. I would have been estatic to see a family team actually fighting a series of disasters and it taken seriously. The possibilites are endless. If you put the Thunderbirds in a real society rather then a childrens playroom it would have had so many avenues for adventure.

I loved THUNDERBIRDS and expected to see a new good THUNDERBIRDS movie. But what Frakes and producers did has no name: Why to title a movie THUNDERBIRDS when neither the "Thunderbirds" (the machines) or the "Thunderbirds" (the pilots) are not the main characters... What's the next? Filming the Munsters with everybody in the grave and do main character other??? Many thanks to that shame, without film gross (who has seen it?) they have killed a franchise that nobody will invest another movie, well made and more intelligent, about the real and original THUNDERBIRDS, good people with hi-tech machines that help people without american bad-good plots.

I AM A 45 YEARS-OLD MEXICAN FAN OF THE ORIGINAL SERIES. THE MOVIE IS GOOD, VERY TEENAGERS-FOCUSED (MY 17 YEARS OLD SON LOVED), BUT IS GOOD. I HOPE THEY MAKE A SECUEL, WITH TRACY BOYS GROWED.

Product placement is fine, who cares - except when it goes to he extent of having the newscast on the TV that thunderbirds watch, "sponsored by ford". To the Andersons; I hope the money was worth it.
| Comment by:- Anonymous | | 11 September 2004 | ip: logged |
Of course Fab 1 was a ford. The whole movie was sponsered by ford. (They created the car and created to cockpits for the thnuderbirds 1,2,3,4,5) If you notice shes even got a Ford kia perhaps one of the worst cars in the world. Well i think so. Everyone who says Brady Corbet is fit you're not half right is a god dame angel, from heaven itself. i went to see it three times i loved it. Heres a fact for you i heard on the radio that Gerry Anderson had nothing to do with the film. They didn't even ask for his help. You know how some of you said about the Ben's and jerry ice cream well i noticed something else they when they did a close up of brady corbet hand the once they hung a piece of string of it. Luv ya all Claire

If you can ignore what they have done to Thunderbirds 2 & 4 then you cant ignore what they did to Allan. A teenager! The original series was better scripted and strung together. Definitely not worth adding to my DVD collection.
