H.R. Giger's stunningly designed aliens are sharp-looking, cleancut mama's boys who are thoroughly open-minded and without prejudice when it comes to their choice of sexual partner, who kill only to survive (although they sure do a LOT of surviving), and who have notched up four films (the first two excellent, and all at least interesting) in their franchise. Predators, on the other hand, are so ridiculous to behold (think a Rastafarian Donald Duck with bad skin and worse teeth) that they spend most of their time cloaked in invisibility, they have only two films to their name (both frankly godawful), and they are militantly pro-hunting. So faced with a choice as to which of these species you would take home to meet the folks, there is no competition really. Pit them against one another in a fistfight, however, and things start to get less predictable.
It is a scenario that had already been envisaged in Predator 2 (where an alien's head was prominently displayed amongst the predators' hunting trophies) and has formed the successful premise of a series of video games - and now director Paul W.S. Anderson ('Event Horizon'), working from a story that he co-wrote with original 'Alien' screenwriters Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, is bringing these extraterrestrial titans into the biggest crossover clash since, well, last year's much funnier, more knowing 'Freddy Vs. Jason'.
The present day. A satellite owned by the Weyland Corporation (part of the conglomerate which, centuries later in Alien, will send the 'Nostromo' on its doomed space voyage) detects a vast pyramid complex buried beneath the antarctic. The Corporation's aging executive and pioneering roboticist Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen, 'later' the robot Bishop in 'Aliens') quickly assembles a team to claim and explore the ancient edifice - only to discover that it has been built by predators (working with their prehistoric human worshippers) to imprison a mother alien who ovulates once a century - at which time the predators return to fight the alien spawn, hatched via sacrificial humans, in a deadly rite of passage. Cue lots of hapless humans barely having time to show off photos of their kids for minimal pathos before they are skewered and strung up by adolescent predators, or face-raped and belly-upped by aliens hellbent on saving mum. When the predators' hunting trip goes wrong, environmentalist Alexa Woods (Sanaa Lathan) must decide whose side she is on in a war that endangers not just the expeditionary team, but the entire human race.
Anderson's decision to build things up slowly over the first half of the film and focus mostly on human drama, while very effective in Alien, is much less so here, since the characters are largely stock types just there to become alien incubators, and by now we all know what the creatures look like - and, unlike in all of the 'Alien' sequels, there are no surprise alien forms or mutations featured here. The pyramid sets are sumptuous, the creature effects (a blend of animatronics and occasional CGI) are stunning, and the fight sequences are viciously gritty - but this alone is not enough to carry the film, and everything else seems just numbing exposition. As in all the 'Alien' films, the protagonist is a woman, but whereas Ripley's gender is integral to the franchise's quirky subtext of birth and motherhood, Alexa's gender seems little more than a tokenistic nod.
So in this war, it is ultimately the viewer who is left out in the cold - although, with at least two holes opened wide at the end for a potential sequel, there is plenty of scope for more crossover confrontations (not least with 'the Thing', which is after all the real inspiration for all these Antarctic antics).

It Needs: To develop its characters either a whole lot less or a whole lot more - and to work on the ropey dialogue.

| All you haters suck and should lay off paul w. s anderson the movie was cool. it aint even out in england yet, but i couldn't wait and got a bootleg copy, it was a dump copy but the film itself was a class act (well it wasn't shakespeare!)but the predator looked rediculously cool, once again! i have 2 complaints only and that is the - predators died far too quickly and like bitches i must say but its all good. - its too short. simple!!!! But i feel the sequel should be more fleshed out like RE apocalypse is. Paul W.S Anderson, i have never had complaints about, the only movie iwasn't in love with was soldier. He isn't great but he's ok, and i respect his work, and he's british so good on him. Keep up the good work (just get better actors). |

| Im afraid that movie sucked badly. Although I must say that it was reasonably entertaining (pretending that it has nothing to do with the originals of either series). There were far too many inconsistencies to the series e.g. changed pred vision, changed camouflage (why fix what aint broke). It took ages to get into the action and then ended. The relationship between the pred and the chick was pretty cool (although tackily attempted, aliens head as a shield!!!??? burned arm anyone?). While this was a very sad day for me, it wasn't unexpected, you only have to take one look at the director and remember that all of his other work has been trash. I'm with all you guys. Oh and there were two brilliant actors in it (the dude from trainspotting 'spud' and the dude from gladiator with the scar) unfortunately they died almost immediately. I am an immense fan of the first three alien movies and the first predator movie (predator 2.... maybe), but this movie should sit in a trash pile all by itself. Did anybody notice that for the most part you couldn't actually see anything! blue and metallic, it was like watching an hour and a half of the movie poster. Just a couple of complaint (among the thousands of others in my mind): why did the pred turn its blades around? theyre double sided! Why were the predators the size of wrestlers? why were they ****rating on showing their stealth, then had them ground pounding awkwardly toward the alien. Oh and Anton, us fans all know that the aliens in resurrection and this one, in NO way represent the sleek almost sexy design of H.R. Giger (bless him). They are now just overly-slimy hulking beasts. Although far fetched the 'dog-alien' was beautifully designed, graceful and enthralling. I can't defend or find any way of explaining why these aliens look how they do (and that makes me annoyed as a fan). All that said, the last ten minutes of the movie were fairly entertaining. They should have stuck to the comic story-line. Paul. W. S. W. S. Anderson, your a dic. K. H. ead. I really hope that it ends here. I say this only as a true fan. Who's with me? |

| This movie needs a director's cut badly. It was so ****, it spent the first half of the movie building up some ****ty characters before killing them off one by one. Then we have lame scenes where the predator is running with the human ... together. Pretty stupid. You need to see Predator 2 to understand the Predator story better, which is a better movie than this. I've seen both Predator movies, they're great. I've seen all the Alien movies, they're better, i dunno it must be their look. But, in my opinion this movie needed to be rated R, it needed some good violence, especially with the two going head to head. 4/10 |

| This movie relied mostly on its action and special effects to get the viewers. The plot was lame and stupid, it jsut seemed like some cheap way to finish the movie off without all of the human race being wiped out. The special effects were top class and the action scenes between the alien and predator monsters kept you off the edge of your seat. The fact that the most top rated explorers in their different fields fell victim to the mindless clues leading towards the pyramid was quite stupid. The movie may have left answers for you to ponder on but all in all it was a substantially good movie. The only improvements I could say it needs is that it needs a better plot and possibly more fight scenes. 6/10 |

| OK!! First of all the predator kick the aliens a** in the end I mean theres one baby aliean against hundreds or predators.Now I have been a Predator guy since I was little and when i heard about this movie Alien vs. Predator I knew it would be good and it was. Now for the pro and cons pros: Great effects, predators kick a** and they got the job done. cons: ending left open for a sequel one alien was left alive ("bummer") and lastly first two predators died to easy. | Rightyo im more of a predator fan (predator 2 is pretty ****) as i think alien is a bit slow. I saw avp for the first time today and my over-all opinion is that the idea of avp had the potential to be good, but it was nothing special but not totally sh!t house. My view of it was that it was way too rushed, pointless 'henchmen' characters that were poorly introduced died too fast and too soon and without a fight. I think alot of people went in expecting the suspensful build up that both pred and alien movies had with the action of predator. but i think that was kinda hard / impossible to do for these reasons: 1. predator one was a top flick because the whole time you were watching it you were left wondering what it looks like, when he was gonna attack as the pred 'stalks arnie and his gang.' and the end climax was raised as the predator slowly gets revealed throughout the movie. 2. Sorta the same as above with aliens only more suspense and horror and more of a build in the characters. 3. It's a bit hard to create that kind of suspense when predators stalk thier prey and there not in a forest or open area or in a huge space ship. And think about it when your in a pirymid its a bit hard to have sections where nothin happens cuz chances are people are gonna run into each other. If the director tried to recreate that suspense the movie would've been way too predictable and repetative. And im sure you all have seen the pred and alien movies enough times to know what each character looks like. I think this movie is a lead up to something bigger, a way to restart the franchises. I have my theories like a predator 3 which could be like aliens only rather than humans on a ship, its predators, or the aliens take over the ship and they land on the preds home planet and have a war. and that may lead to alien 5. AvP is a seperate movie. Imagine that you have only seen alien and not predator or the other way around if you think of it like that its not THAT bad of a movie. AS for the chick and the pred fighting together, im a bit undecided, but i guess what else could they do to make a human survive? |

| I must say that all you avp haters suck! The movie is great. Better than Alien 3 and Resurrection and Predator 2.I must say it had nothing to do with the actual game. The sequel better be based on avp2 on the pc. It's a wicked game and would make a brilliant movie. If it ain't then i'm gonna kick the sh*t out the director. I think someone like James Cameron should direct it, he's great with action movies. Aliens was great and the best Alien movie of them all. | I have not seen the movie yet but the books have the Predator & Human female colaborating as the planet the aliens were released on was supposed to be uninhabited by inteligent life! The predator leader training the "Apprentices" realises the mistake and tries to make amends with the only human survivour. The first couple of predator deaths may be quick but its live training & life is survival of the fittest!! The reviews are not great but I will still see it. |

| Its a shame so many of you hate the film, I watched it last night and I am a massive fan of both Alien and Predator movies, and found the film to be really good, I enjoyed the fact that it tried to explain why the Predators and Aliens were there, This film could have been so much worse and after all the terrible reviews it received I was surprised how good it was. As for all of the swearing and cussing on this site relax guys it's a film! And for all you guys saying your going to kick the director's ass? | Oh one more thin the Predator is NOT a none stop killing machine, we saw that it wasnt in Preadator 2, it is a hunter, With a lot of honor and will only kill for a chalange, Lex gave the predator his weapon back and claimed the life of an Alien, so the Predator respected her for it, maybe you should watch the other movies before you pass judgment. |

| How can anybody possibly give this film any credit? It is such a shame that someone can take an excellent movie franchise and churn out a crap film, which they know will make more than enough money just because of the title. I felt cheated and dissapointed with this movie, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Here are a few problems I had with the film: -the storyline made no sense in relation the other films -the action sequences were cut so quickly you could see anything that was going on -there was absolutely no substance to the characters, I wanted them all to die as soon as they came on screen -there was no dark or twistedness that was present in the previous Alien films -it looked like Predator and the heroine were going to kiss near the end -Lex outruns a QUEEN ****ING ALIEN!! -that italian guy miraculously works out everything that is going on all the time -the soundtrack was bland and lacked any identification -suspense...........what....SUSPENSE.....HOWCOULDANYOFYOU........be...frightened..by thiiiiiiiiiiiiiisssssssss........FILM!!! (sorry for scaring the **** out of anyone here who found the film scary) -it was a pile of **** I'm going to watch Alien in attempt to try and restore my faith. Anybody who liked the film, wacth it again, really look at what's going on, don't give into the mindless crap, you are a relatively intelligent lifeform by earth's standards and can make your own judgements about things, expose this ****e for what it really is, you are allowed to feel confused and cheated, how could those big friendly hollywood movie guys insult you like this??!!?!?!? |

| Scott, I fail to see how you cant se the relation between this film (AVP) and the other films that preceded it. The 'Italian guy' was able to explain the story of 'how it all began' because he was an expert in the field of pyramids and hieroglyphics, and because of this was able to understand the story by deciphering what was on the walls of the pyramid. Although I do agree with you on a couple of points, i.e. the sound track was a little poor, and I felt very little for the human characters, but I maintain the fact that the film was not that bad, Let us not forget Alien resurrection, now that was a truly awful film, Next to that movie this could win Oscars. |

| One thing I wanna say is that both the Predator movies were brill and are classics, the only alien move I liked was "Aliens", and they are all as good as each other. Pred 2 was brill, I don't know why people hate it so much. I haven't seen AvP, but it'll look like I'll be disappointed, instead on goin' to cinema I'll lend it of a friend, but come on guys, you don't expect AvP to be good 'cause it's cert 15, which dumb a** will make an aliens or a predator movie which is cert 15!!!!! If you guys red one of the older AvP books (AvP: Prey), a human (Ryushi) teams up with an predator, towards the end of the book, to fight aliens and the alien queen, it was a brilliant book, the movie may have a similar story, I still need to see it though. |

| Anderson is a BAD director, he should do anything but make movies. He's so far from Cameron, Scott and others that he should be fired. He killed excelent idea. Movie wasn't good. | What a saddening display of linguistic incompetence. Don't you people learn to write in school? You have SPELL checker functions at your disposal, even GRAMMAR checkers too, and yet spelling and grammar errors are strewn all over this forum. Aside from this, many of you seem to be unable to clearly and consistently communicate your points of view. Anyway, I get the overall feeling that AVP is pretty much a waste of time and certainly not worth shelling out $9 in the movie theater. Isn't it amazing how so much money can be bankrolled for these movies that turn out to be so mediocre? Incredible. Especially the severe overuse of special effects, seemingly as a crutch to keep a poor acting movie alive. A perfect example is the 2nd generation Star Wars movies... so many scenes overly laden with busy computer graphics that you can't clearly focus on anything. I take it that AVP is no exception. |

| There was one thing we can salvage from a mess of bad acting and awfully-cut fight scenes: The door was left open for a sequel, which might make everything all better. Or it could bury the legacy of both franchises and **** on the graves. This is kinda how I felt when I watched Terminator 3. |

| Enjoyable, but dissapointing. Should have made it hard line, and not go for the PG or whatever rating it was. Plenty to see, but then again you always want to see more. A Directors Cut is really needed to keep this one alive. |

| It's funny to see that the people who actually try to write an honest review of the movie have good ideas unlike all you other guys who can only say ***** and ****. Now on to my opinion: Well, It Isn't great, but it isn't bad either and I, as a Predator/Alien fan liked it a lot. 1- The first fight Predator/Alien starts TOO DAMN fast but it slows a bit and overall it's pretty good; 2- It's not the Predators that are small, it's the Aliens who are HUGE (they come of humans how can they be that big?); 3-There's no point in knowing the life of 10 diferent people if they are going to die the next instant (that time could be used for a bit more action); 4- I understand the first two Predators dying quickly, it's war out there and they've never seen aliens before (and the aliens wouldn't stand a chance against 3 fully armed Predators); 5- About some weapons melting and others not, My knife isn't made of the same metal as yours (whoever you are) so it's "eatable"; 6- When the Predator slices the alien's head, there's no acid there so the chick shouldn't burn the arm with the head on it; 7- The movie needs a bit more horror scenes (just like in the Alien saga) 8- The movie needs (liek some of you here said) phrases that stick to our ears: "I ain't got time to bleed" (just like what happened in Predator); 9- Who wrote the Finale? This isnt't the Nostromo... there's tenths of Predators on that ship, how can that alien-predator survive? Is it a female alien? (how convenient); 11- Couldn't the aliens stay alive? How would they get out of Antartica? Fly? Swim? don't make me laugh, there was no need to kill them all but hey, whatever (as far as I see it, there's no sequel possible from this movie (queen alien could not survive in the bottom of the ocean the kid alien has no chance and there's no blood to clone Ripley :) 12- Aren't there too many aliens in the end? I wasn't able to count them properly but it seemed like there were too many aliens there. The movie could be better, but people insist in having mediocre directors directing this type of movies (Resident, AVP etc) so all we fans can do is either spend a few $$ to see it or buy a dvd. About wanting to be friend friendly and not having the aliens or predator winning, that's just BS people... the fact that there are only 3 predators there is proof enough of the predator superiority (not to mention that they keep queen aliens just for the purpose of hunting every 100 years). Overall 6/10 |

| In defence for Alien I aknowledge that Predetor is the greatest hunter and Alien is used by Predator BUT if you think on it Alien is the greatest organic hunter. Without it's weapons and armour an Alien would slaughter a Predator due to the fact Aliens weapons are one with it's self. |

| SUPERB! Maybe cut by the Studio (not Anderson!), but also a Masteriece. Maybe there comes a DC on DVD, but i will buy this Version too. WOW - fine story, superb Special-FX, great Atmosphere, great Action and some good Jokes. And remember - this is not a Mix between the Alien- and Predator-Movies - it“s based an the Comic!!! |

| well I liked it, indeed not tat much action, I should have made a real war of it Much more predators and Much more Aliens, and I would have let them Crawl over the Area sneaking to kill some predators, and I also would have given the guns a little more talking cause only one alien died of a gun. and I didn't saw the gun of the predator, and his total Armoury was a little small he used only 3 weapons, and he didn't regenerated him self when he was hit. |

| Thanx Mr. Anderson (i“m not talkin about Neo....). AVP is really wonderful and better than i thought it was going to be. There are no mistakes in this crossover and both Aliens and Predators are given high points in the greatest battle in the movie history. The best....the first Alien-Predator fight and the Queen fight. If AVP has some weak point is that....it“s too short....87 minutes its too short and i was left wantein something else....and the rating..PG-13? Anyway is a great movie, and is veery welcome to the greatest saga: Alien |

| Im not a die-hard fan of either alien or predator, but ive seen both of them in action in their own movies. I would like to say that i agree with most of you guys that the movie was way to short, wasted a lot of time on characters that died as soon as they went into the pyramid, it could have used more action, and Rated pg-13... we need to change that if theres a sequel. On a 1-10 ill give it a 5. |

| Alien vs. Predator is a kick ass movie even though it got slow at some parts. I think the predators looked f***ing awsome and land the smack down on the aliens. I liked the predators cloak, vision and apperance very much Paul W.S. Anderson did a great job on that. Ive always been a Predator fan and this I think is much better then Predator 2. The special effects were awsome and the plot was very good. Paul W.S. Anderson could have put more action in and gore. But if there is a sequel I bet it will be a 100 times better then the first AVP hopefully". So everybody just lay off Paul and wait until the sequel. |

| This movie wasn't all bad i think iy had great scenes (when pred gets impaled with alien tale and when alien get swung around). I know that i was expecting to **** myself but upon hearing it was 15 i had my doubts den i watched and saw that it wasn't all i suspected. But i am not an AVP hater only wish it was scarier I mean the greatest monster franchise's were in the same movie cum on ppl it should have killed the audience. I am a Predator fan for life. pple lets pray dat the r taed dvd will be better let us pray. Oh yeah and whats up with da pyramid story it should have been set in the future this was more of a prequel to both alien and predator. f**k man should have been better. |

| There should have been more predators. When i downloaded the first Featurette of AVP almost a year ago i heard him say that there would be five predators. I love the alien and predator series i even bought the alien legacy boxset for £60 but i still favour predator. I hope predator 3 or AVP2 if made restores honour amongst their franchise. But still the movie was good but not better than Alien 1,2,3,4 and predator 1 but pred 2 yh maybe. Paul W.S Anderson if u have seen this paged i'm sure ur ****ed i would join these crazy guys an diss u but den i again i think it was decent but don't get too happy because u shud have left dis movie for some1 like James Cameron or the alien directors scratch dat even dat GIGER guy could have made it better! ow sorry wasn't supposed to dis lets put it dis was some wicked scence i'll big up dat but tell me why did that big pred who swung da alien around die the next scene dat hurt me i felt licke i got the aliens mouth thing through my head.... maybe i did. |

| This movie is good if: A) You have never seen any of the previous movies. B) You have only seen one of the Alien movies. C) You don't care about Paul Anderson's directing record. Having seen all the movies, read the AVP books, and owned a few comics based on both I'm not going to play fanboy and nitpick what's already been said but point out some things for the less educated in the whole AVP mythos. 1) The real stars of the movies are the aliens (both species) and at no point in time did I worry about any of the characters. Personally I think all of them should have been killed off. 2) Watch Resident Evil and then this movie and match the recycled sequences. 3) Seeing that the Predators killed half of the crew how in the world were there possibly so many Aliens running around? Did they kill the production crew too? 4) Anyone else notice how the temple stopped revolving when the only one to notice it got killed? 5) Speaking of the revolving temple, shouldn't it have been much harder for them to escape if the temple was as huge as they made it out to be? 6) If the pyramid was made by one ancient culture that branched off by to 3 that culture's language is still unique and shouldn't have been deciphered on the fly. Anyway there were some good parts such as: 1) Predator weapons. 2) The fight sequences. No martial arts in an action/ sci-fi movie for a change. 3) The facehuggers got more screen time than like all the Alien movies combined. 4) The Alien armor the woman wore if you suspend the belief that the Alien blood did not melt her arm off. IF this comes out on DVD get it only if it has a documentary on the whole AVP history and maybe some kind of animated CG profiles of the aliens and maybe side stories like the Dawn of the Dead DVD. |

| So...I realize I'm a bit behind schedule here, as the rest of you posted your comments months ago. However, with a movie like this, I knew I would never go see it in the theatre. Nor would I go out and find it in the video rental store, so I got it on Pay Per View tonight. Needless to say, I'm glad I didn't expend any energy to watch this movie. Of course it sucks...there was never a doubt in my mind that it would. Usually when two franchises are thrown together with a "VS" between them, it's for a quick buck. And they probably made theirs. I'm a fan of the original Predator movie. I think it's a grade A action flick that should have stayed exactly as it was, with no sequel. That's how I like to think of it. Plus, it scared the living crap out of me when I was a kid. Okay, great movies are great movies. Jaws was a great movie, but everything following it was, unquestionably, crap. The first two "Alien" movies were pretty good, too, though I'm less of a fan of them. A movie like AVP doesn't mean s**t when you compare it to the ogiginal(s). It's people making movies to make money, not to uphold the integrity of the originals. Thus, we shouldn't take it as seriously. Again, of course it's crap. It's full of holes (none of which I can point out that haven't been already), the characters are weak, and in some cases, wasted on decent actors. But anyways... Personally, I didn't mind the Predator having a bit of respect for what it saw as a "fellow warrior". That, if anything, gave the movie the most humanity...more than Ewan Bremmer's character's kids did, anyways. Please don't mistake this for me saying AVP had a saving grace. It's too bad more time and thought weren't put into this movie, because I do believe it could have been at least good. I've seen worse, though. Just for fun, a worse movie would be "Sasquatch", also starring Lance Henrikson. What a stinker. Even worse would be a little stinkpile called "Grind". Grind is probably the worst movie I've ever seen. I'd reccommend that it be essential watching for film students for "what NOT to do when making a movie". F**k, what a piece of s**t. Oh, by the way, a lot of you should really learn how to spell, and write proper sentences. Geez Louise. |
